How to attract female developers

Only 6% of developers in Sweden are female (according to Stack Overflow).  How do you attract female developers to your company? And how do you create a workspace where everybody can thrive, no matter their gender, age, interests or background?

Pink Programming is Sweden's largest community for female developers, and over the last four years we have been coding with thousands of women all over Sweden. During this workshop we'll share our insights from those meetings and surveys we have conducted within our network. After the workshop you'll know how to create an inclusive work environment and where to reach out to female developers, and you'll be an expert at writing appealing job ads.

The workshop contains three parts: an introduction to the topic diversity & inclusion, exercises on how to attract a more diverse workforce, and finally an exercise on becoming a more inclusive workplace and keeping those female developers. After the day you'll have access to an online toolbox to help you implement what you have learned.

All you need to know

We will be at Malmö's tech startup hub, the Ground, between 08.00 - 13.00. This includes four hours workshop, followed by lunch. Coffee and tea will be available throughout the morning.

We offer ten spots at this workshop. We recommend that at least two people from your company attend the workshop, but it’s not required. About a week prior to the event you will get an email with a number of questions that we ask you to answer and reflect together on before the workshop.

As this is the first time we're running this workshop, we will request your input on the day in order to further develop our offering. We appreciate if you can plan to stay for lunch after the workshop and discuss your opinions of the morning.

Maria Scharin
Information Developer at Neo4J & Auditor at Pink Programming

Maria has been in tech since High School, and always missed a more diverse school/work environment. When she was a guest lecturer at a Pink Programming camp in 2017, it was instant love. Maria adores the community that we are building, and the way we are changing the world, one event at the time. When not at her day job or fiddling with something Pink, she prefers running or doing yoga.
